Stoke Everton match preview

In this match of incomplete 31st round of English Premier League next-to-last Stoke will face 9th-placed Everton, which at the moment has big 10 points more. Right because of that it is quite clear that the home team has huge imperative to win, while fact they have four-game winless streak with Everton of even three defeats and just one draw should be just an additional motive to revenge.

Stoke

True, Stoke played the only drew in that unfortunate series at its stadium last year and its fans firmly believe the time has come to triumph over Everton. On top of it, after the latest five-game winless streak of two defeats and three draws Stoke moved into the drop zone, or more precisely at the penultimate place, although 14th-placed Swansea has just four points more meaning there is still chance to avoid relegation and continue competing in the Premier League.

However, the first condition to achieve something like that is to start winning and this home match with team that didn’t win a single point from last five away matches comes as a gift from heaven. It doesn’t mean the guests from Liverpool will surrender without fighting back, in fact team led by manager Lambert should show far more will to win than in some previous matches. Let’s add that out of action due to injuries are midfielder Ireland and forward Diouf.

Probable lineups Stoke: Butland – Bauer, Shawcross, Zouma, Stafylidis – Cameron, Ndiaye – Shaqiri, Allen, Choupo-Moting – Crouch

Everton

We have said in the introduction that the guests from Liverpool could play this match far more relaxed than their opponents as they currently occupy the 9th place in the Premier League table and have even 10 points more than teams in the relegation zone. On the other hand, Everton lags behind teams which occupy European competitions for even 11 points, therefore, it is expected that experienced coach Allardyce firstly secure survival of his team and then to start preparing it for coming season.

Everton won last three home matches but outside its stadium it has five-game losing streak, so now against Stoke it has to play far more aggressively and to stiffen defence if they want to stay undefeated. Regarding situation with the team, forwards Walcott and Sigurdsson got injured in previous round and together with suspended stopper Williams they are supposed to skip this match with Stoke, while from before are out of action injured stopper Mangala and midfielders Schneiderlin, Gueye and McCarthy.

Probable lineups Everton: Pickford – Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines – Klaassen, Davies, Rooney – Calvert-Lewin, Tosun, Bolasie

Verdict:

It is quite clear that in this match next-to-last Stoke is the one that needs point far more than its opponent, and it relies in fact that Everton won no points from last five away matches.
