PSG Marseille match preview

This is definitely the most interesting quarter-final match of the French Cup as two great teams are about to face each other, PSG and Marseille. The two teams met just three days ago in the league and the guests from south of France had no chance at the Princess Park where they were defeated by sound 3-0. On the other hand, their match played last autumn at the Velodrome stadium had ended as draw 2-2.

Paris Saint-Germain

The leading team of the Ligue 1 had confirmed on Sunday evening in front of it fans that is dominant team in the French championship this year as it controlled the game throughout whole 90 minutes, and won Marseille by sound 3-0 thanks to its striking trio. True, Mbappe and Cavani had scored goals by themselves, while Neymar’s kick was deflected in the goal by visiting stopper Rolando.

Near the end of match Neymar got injured and according to latest information he will skip match with Marseille for sure, just like the one with Troyes in the league, and it is not certain will he recover for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 with Real Madrid, in which PSG will try to annul minus of two goals. On the other hand, two titles are within arm’s reach, in the Ligue 1 and League Cup, while now PSG will try to eliminate Marseille and reach the semi-final of French Cup.

Probable lineups Paris Saint-Germain: Trapp – Meunier, Kimpembe, Silva, Kurzawa – Pastore, Motta, Draxler – di Maria, Cavani, Mbappe

Olympique Marseille

Unlike the Parisians, who after Sunday triumph can again face Marseille without any pressure in the French Cup, the guests from south of France will try on Wednesday evening to make it up to their fans for heavy defeat in the Ligue 1, regardless that players are fairly tired from playing on several fronts. Seven days ago Marseille played in the Europa League and lost to Braga away, but nevertheless it reached the round of 16 with aggregated 3-1.

It means that manager Garcia players have lost two matches in a row now, although before that they had a fantastic positive series of even 10 wins and two draws. Marseille didn’t play with full power against Braga, while it couldn’t do much against PSG in the league, which is why Garcia stated that will make several changes both in team and tactic for new match with PSG in the Cup. Let’s add that out of action are still injured goalkeeper Mandanda, midfielder Sertic and forward Mitroglou.

Probable lineups Olympique Marseille: Pele – Sarr, Rolando, Rami, Amavi – Luiz Gustavo, Lopez – Thauvin, Sanson, Payet – N'Jie

Verdict:

Of course that leading team in the Ligue 1 is an absolute favourite after Sunday victory of 3-0 over Marseille to reach the semi-finals of the French Cup, but we also believe that the guests will play more riskier and consequently we have opted for a pick with plenty of goals.
