Lazio vs Bologna match preview

The last match of the 37th round of Italian Serie A doesn’t mean much, and especially not for Lazio which won the Coppa Italia last week and in that way qualified for the Europa League, while the Champions League is out of their reach. Bologna is pretty much safe in terms of survival, or perhaps totally safe when teams positioned below it finish matches of this round. Lazio won their head-to-head played in the first part of season by 2-0.

Lazio

Lazio saved the season since it won the Italian Cup last Wednesday, and so it ended up with a trophy in its display cabinet. It was never easy feat to accomplish having such strong competition, however, Lazio eliminated among others Inter and Milan, and faced tough Atalanta in the final. They were lucky enough to play the final at Olimpico stadium in Rome so they were practically hosts. They fought a great battle with Atlanata and the decisive point was when recovered midfielder Milinkovic-Savic came off the bench.

He scored after being just three minutes on the pitch and given that only eight minutes were left, it was clear that Lazio is on verge of triumph. Correa finished the job in the added time and Lazio won the Cup and secured a place for itself in the Europa League. That is why they can play remaining two league rounds without any pressure. Radu cannot play due to suspension, while some other players will probably get a day off.

Probable lineups Lazio Rome: Proto – L. Felipe, Acerbi, Bastos – Romulo, Parolo, Leiva, L. Alberto, Lulic – Immobile, Correa

Bologna

Bologna played very well lately so it is no wonder that the team has avoided relegation. Confirmation of that came in the previous round when they faced Parma at home, team that was also facing relegation so it was a showdown between two direct rivals. It was a hard match in the first half, probably because of the stakes, but in the second Bologna played much better and won by 4-1. Four goals and four different scorers, while team that lost in the previous round to Milan 2-1 was very much changed.

That was expected as two Bologna players earned red cards in Milan. Dijks and N. Sansone couldn’t play in Parma, while Poli earned the fifth yellow card and also couldn’t play. Mbaye and Krejci covered the flanks, Dzemaili played at defensive midfielder position, while R. Soriano and Destro played in attack. Match against Parma shows that changes were the right move and logically there is no need to change anything now, although all suspensions have expired. However, coach Mihajlovic will probably put back Dijk on the left flank, while Samson could again play in attack.

Probable lineups Bologna: Skorupski – Mbaye, Danilo, Lyanco, Dijks – Pulgar, Dzemaili – Orsolini, R. Soriano, N. Sansone – Palacio

Verdict:

Lazio has no imperative and the team will be surely changed, so they will be vulnerable in this match. They still celebrate winning the Coppa Italia, while Bologna plays quite well lately and is definitely capable to parry the home team, which is why we expect that both teams will score.
