Belarus Germany match preview

There are two strong teams in the Group C and Germany is one of them, while Belarus wants to make a surprise but they didn’t start well. They played two away matches and lost both of them, where defeat by the Netherlands was sound. Germany too faced the Netherlands but it won. The two teams met just once before and that happened in 2008 when their friendly ended as 2-2 draw.

Belarus

Belarus was successful in the Nations League, however, they played in the weakest league and it was no surprise that they managed to win the first place. Luxembourg, Moldova and San Marino were its rivals, and Belarus lost no matches; it won two and lost four games. It drew both times they with Moldova and that was expected because it was the strongest rival, and interestingly both matches ended as goalless draw. Regarding the qualifications for European Championship, that was a completely different story as the rivals were stronger.

Right in the first round Belarus suffered a catastrophe in the Netherlands, where they lost by 4-0. They received two goals in first 20 minutes and it was clear that they couldn’t escape defeat. They put up a better resistance to Northern Ireland in Belfast where three minutes separated them from a draw but they received the second goal and lost. Manager Kriushenko had made several changes in the team that faced the Irish, and he will now change again because some players couldn’t come for this match.

Probable lineups Belarus: Klimovich – Shitov, Martynovich, Polyakov, Volodjko – Maevskyi, Dragun – Kovalev, Stashevich, Gordejchuk – Laptev

Germany

The Germans totally underperformed at the World Cup and then they disappointed in the Nations League, so they started this qualification being under a strong pressure. In the first round they had to face the strongest rival in the group, the Netherlands, which already made them so much trouble in the Nations League. However, the Germans played an excellent first half after which they had a lead of two goals. In the second half they reminded on themselves from the World Cup in Russia and they received two goals. In those moments it seemed that will drop the victory and perhaps even lose the match.

Nothing of that has happened since N. Schulz scored in the last minute for 3-2 victory. Such beginning of the qualification provides a peace of mind and now it should be much easier against Belarus. Bad thing for the Germans is that manager Low is ill and cannot accompany them to Belarus, but that is not the only handicap. Goalkeeper Stegen cannot play as well, while stopper Rudiger is out of action due to injury. Compared to match with the Netherlands there will be no experienced midfielder T. Kroos, while Goretzka has problem and is questionable for this match.

Probable lineups Germany: Neuer – Kimmich, Sule, Kehrer, N. Schulz – Gundogan – Gnabry, Havertz, Reus, L. Sane – Ti. Werner

Verdict:

Belarus had a bad start of qualifications and it can be seen that opponents are too strong for them. They can hardly do much and especially not against very strong teams like Germany definitely is. The Germans won in Amsterdam and they want to repeat that in Belarus, which in our opinion will do without much trouble.
